CISO SERVICE USA Model Certification) is a U.S. Department of Defense program that verifies whether defense companies protect sensitive government information. It is based mainly on NIST SP 800-171 and, at higher levels, selected NIST SP 800-172 controls.
CISO SERVICE USA applies to U.S. businesses working on DoD contracts or subcontracts involving Federal Contract Information (FCI) or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). This includes contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, IT companies, aerospace firms, and other defense-related organizations.
CISO SERVICE USA requirements are being incorporated into DoD contracts in phases. The required certification level depends on the type of information handled and the specific requirements stated in the contract.
